David M. Franklyn,.was born in Norwood, Massachusetts on 24 February, 1958. Dave entered the United States Air Force on 22 July, 1976. After graduating from technical training in November of 1976 as a computer systems technician, he was assigned to the North American Air Defense Command's Cheyenne Mountain Complex near Colorado Springs, Colorado. In October of 1979 he was assigned to the 6th Missile Warning Squadron, Cape Cod Air Force Station, Massachusetts. In December of 1982, he was assigned to the 5th Defense Satellite Communications Station, Woomera Air Station, Australia. In March of 1984, Sergeant Franklyn was assigned to the Defense Intelligence Agency at Bolling AFB in Washington, D.C In May of 1988, he was assigned to the Joint Data Systems Support Center, Defense Communications Agency, the Pentagon as NCOIC of the Single Integrated Operation Plan Computer Center. In June of 1991, Sergeant Franklyn was assigned to the 6917th Electronic Security Group, San Vito dei Normanni Air Station, Italy, as the Superintendent of the Communications-Computer Systems Division. In April 1993, he was assigned to the 26th Technical Group at Ramstein AB, Germany, as the Chief of Communications-Computer Systems. In October 1993, the unit was redesignated as the 26th Intelligence Group. In February 1997, Sergeant Franklyn was assigned to the 42d Communications Squadron, Maxwell AFB, Alabama as the Superintendent, BaseNetwork Control Center. He retired in August of 1998, after 22 years of military service.

Sergeant Franklyn's awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with five oak leaf clusters, the Armed Forces Service Medal (Bosnia/Herzogovina), and the Nation Defense Service Medal. In 1992 he won both the Air Force Intelligence Command’s and HQ USAF’s Command, Control, Communications, and Computer Systems (C4) Professionalism Awards.


Center for Advanced Technologies
Auburn University Montgomery
After retiring from the Air Force, he became the Lead Networking and Operating Systems instructor at the Center for Advanced Technologies, Auburn University, Montgomery, in Montgomery, Alabama. He teaches Windows 2000 and Linux classes, and is an MCSE in Windows NT and 2000, as well as an MCT. He lives in Tallassee, Alabama with his wife Nancy, Daughter Charlotte and son Nathan.
